Measurements and simulations of MIMO 2×2 reference antennas

Different standardization bodies are working towards test methodologies and procedures to determine true Multiple Impute Multiple Output (MIMO) performance. A reference CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) 2×2 Long Term Evolution (LTE) MIMO antenna concept has been designed [1-2] and verified [3] to eliminate the uncertainties linked to the unknown antenna performance of the few LTE MIMO 2×2 reference devices or golden standards currently available for evaluating radiated data throughput measurement methodologies and test facilities. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the achievable matching between the measurement and simulation of the CTIA 2×2 LTE MIMO reference antenna system. A set of measurements performed within the facility Comparison Campaign (EurAAP activity) has been used together with simulations from SW vendors (with different numerical methods) to produce the results shown in this paper.
