Propagation of Gaussian monocycle pulses in breast phantoms with slot antenna arrays

Gaussian monocycle pulse propagations in breast phantoms were investigated for multi-static radar-based breast cancer detection. A 4 × 4 flat antenna array was placed on the breast phantom with a flat surface. To reconstruct confocal images of a cancer, waveforms with a tumor phantom were calculated by subtracting the reference signal from the measured waveforms. The reference signal was formed by averaging eight identical antenna configurations for the 4 × 4 array. To make the confocal image more accurate, the antenna array was moved in both x- and y-directions with 20 mm step. A three-dimensional confocal image of a tumor phantom was reconstructed only from measured waveforms.
