On the Performance of Sub-Band Precoded OFDM in the Presence of Narrowband Co-Channel Interference

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is the preferred modulation scheme for high-speed data transmission and has been incorporated in many broadband wireless standards. Despite its many benefits, which include robust performance in noise and fading channels, OFDM systems have poor performance in the presence of narrowband co-channel interference. In this paper, we consider OFDM systems with sub-band precoding and study their signal-to-interference+noise-ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER) performance through analysis and simulations. Results indicate that sub-band precoding has the potential to improve the OFDM system performance in the presence of narrowband co-channel interference, when compared to conventional OFDM systems.
