Corona degradation of polyethylene under multiple stress conditions

The major volatile degradation products of polyethylene exposed to partial discharges are hydrogen and carbon dioxide, with lesser amounts of carbon monoxide and methane. The effect of temperature and voltage on the composition and amounts of degradation product gases has been investigated.
