Manufacturing technology of rigid-flex multilayer boards

Presented herein are details of a U.S. Army sponsored manufacturing technology study to establish production methods and standards for multilayer rigid-flex wiring harnesses. Existing manufacturing approaches are tabulated as are typical industry problems. Data from a comprehensive industry survey are utilized to select candidate approaches. These approaches are evaluated using appropriate screening tests, and conclusions are made regarding the most promising rigid-flex process approach.
