Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanofibers as a Cell Impedance Sensor

The paper reports a biological cell impedance sensing system based on vertically aligned carbon nanofibers (VACNF). VACNFs having an average length of 4.45 μm are deterministically grown on transparent quartz substrates and are examined using SEM. The real-time impedance of Bovine Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells (BAOSMC) cultured on the VACNF array is measured and a net change in impedance is observed which indicates cell adherence on the VACNF surface.
