Reduction of interference between two neighbouring antennas by a modulated metasurface

In this paper, a modulated metasurface structure is introduced for reducing the interference between two dipole antennas placed close to each other in MIMO application. For a system comprising of two dipole antennas of WLAN frequency of 2.4GHz and 6.3GHz respectively, a single metasurface cloak structure covering the 2.4GHz antenna provides proper isolation. The metasurface cloak is patterned with the modulated (aperiodic) structure. The similarity between the simulated S parameter results of the isolated antennas with that of closely placed cloaked antennas proves the effectiveness of proposed cloaking structure design. Also, the results obtained from the proposed modulated metasurface are compared with the existing capacitive horizontal ring metasurface and observed an increment in bandwidth of nearly 15 % in 6.3GHz with the proposed cloak design structure.
