Intellectual resource driven multipurpose virtual engineering environment

Theoretical, methodological and systemic resources were developed on the way towards product system model centered and intellectual property driven engineering during the past decade. These developments enhanced communications between humans as well as between humans and physical objects. Leading industries utilized new generation of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems in connection with smart factory environment. In the meantime, knowledge applied at product definition was gradually organized in intellectual property (IP) of a company or other organization. IP collects active representation of proven results, expertise and company experience based knowledge. IP methodology is considered as one of future main tools for reusing results which carry information on practice proven in real world engineering problem solving. Recognizing the above trend, research at the Laboratory of Intelligent Engineering Systems (LIES, Óbuda University) concentrates on system level and knowledge content driven engineering modeling methodologies for ten years. This paper discusses one of recent results at LIES in advances virtual engineering based multipurpose engineering system (MES). It introduces generalized scheme of virtual engineering process and compares physical representation and system based engineering modeling approaches. Following this, generalized content driven system model approach and inter-structural driving connections in content driven and product system based engineering model (EM) are discussed as main methodologies which facilitate organizing MES. The MES concept is explained using two typical examples. Finally possibility for MES implementation using recent PLM system functionality is outlined. The reported research utilized previously published results at LIES in communication at product definition, extended product behavior representation, and representation of knowledge as content for driving EM elements.
