CORE-shell microparticles formation with centrifugal coaxial microfluidic device

This paper describes a preliminary result regarding formation of core-shell microparticles utilizing a centrifuge-based microfluidic device. As a proof of concept, we encapsulated and cultured human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cells into such microstructures. In order to fabricate multi-compartmental microparticles1, the easy microparticles centrifugal synthesis method, which requires a tabletop centrifuge and a device with built-in microtubes called centrifuge-based droplet shooting device (CDSD), is here reported. Noticeably, by integrating a coaxial microfluidic structure into the CDSD to create core-shell microparticles, we demonstrated a simple and straightforward cell encapsulation process into the microparticles core which is a promising step for fabricating cell container.
