The degradation of barium titanate (BaTiO/sub 3/) films under high electric fields

In this paper attention is directed toward the degradation and breakdown mechanism of the alkoxy-derived barium titanate (BaTiO/sub 3/) films in applied high electric field. Both ac and dc degradation are characterized by a large increase in conductivity. The lower breakdown voltage of the step method probably results from increased degradation rate due to longer applied field times. Studying dc degradation indicates that Schottky emission is a sign of unreliable dielectrics.
