Adaptive hysteresis Handover Algorithm in heterogeneous mobile networks

Traditional Handover algorithms, such as Hard Handover Algorithm, depend only on the power level. More considerations are necessary to satisfy the end user's requirements. There are more than hundred parameters that could affect handover decision in heterogeneous networks like bandwidth, data rate, QoS, … etc. The goal of this paper is to introduce an adaptive hysteresis fuzzy logic based vertical handover algorithm (VHO) that takes into consideration the subscriber velocity, the current subscriber balance, and the application used by the subscriber. After establishing the membership function, the adaptive hysteresis is calculated. It categorizes the subscribers according to the current balance and the used applications to offer suitable data rate to high data rate to each category. The Simulation results show that network performance in terms of number of handovers is improved.
