Abstract:
With trailing cable systems electric energy can be supplied continuously to mobile machinery, without the need of refueling or recharging batteries. In the first part of this paper a literature survey on state-of-the-art trailing tethered machinery is given and an alternative electric architecture based on high-voltage DC transmission is introduced. In the second part, an overview of DC-DC converter technology is given and a suitable concept for the problem at hand is proposed. To reduce the voltage across the semiconductors, a modular converter concept is presented, to realize compact converters for implementation on machines.
