Modelling of highly birefringent dispersion compensating circular Photonic Crystal Fiber

This paper represents a highly birefringence circular-lattice Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) which compensates polarization and chromatic dispersion covering the E to U communication bands (1310–1640 nm). The finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layers is applied to investigate the guiding properties of the proposed PCF. From simulation, it is observed that the proposed PCF has dispersion coefficient about −220.9032 to −792.7265 (ps/nm-km) for E to U band. Particularly at the wavelength of 1550 nm the value of dispersion coefficient is found to be −678.1918 (ps/nm-km) and nonlinear coefficient is 56.41 (W−1Km−1). Besides that at that particular wavelength (1550 nm), the proposed PCF offers high birefringence which is about 0.0108 with the confinement loss of 0.0542 dB/m.
