Anti-collision pentacopter for NDT applications

A Pentacopter is a multicopter which is a mechanically simple and stable aerial vehicle whose motion is controlled by speeding or slowing many downward thrusting motors/propeller units. Pentacopter are aerodynamically very stable and absolutely require an on-board computer for stable take-off, landing and flight. The flight controller gathers the instructions, combines data from small on-board sensors and maintains an accurate estimate of its orientation and position. The Non-destructive testing is the widely used industrial technology to evaluate the defects in a material or a component without causing any damage. The Non-destructive testing methods are used for analyzing the properties of electrical, mechanical and civil engineering materials. In this paper, my aim is to Design and Fabricate An anti-collision Pentacopter which will be used for Non-destructive testing applications. The Pentacopter has a flight controller and five arms with six motors with propellers and it is equipped with a high resolution camera for capturing the Non-destructive testing analysis. The Pentacopter basically have more lifting power, flight time and stable hovering capabilities compared with tricopter or quadcopter and can be used to detect the internal defects in the Non-destructive testing material. Pentacopter has been designed with wide angle of front arms which makes it suitable for taking aerial photos and videos of the non-destructive testing of the object easily. An ultrasonic proximity sensor is fixed on the adjacent arms of the Pentacopter in order to provide anti-collision property with the NDT-object. Therefore, the anti-collision Pentacopter is designed so that it can inspect the NDT-object by remote visual inspection methods with a greater accuracy. Conceptual design and Product shape and dimensions are developed based on the empirical formulas of aeronautics and commercially available advanced CADD software by name CATIAV5 is used for developing the 3D structure for the Pentacopter.
