Video conference traffic control for SudREN using QoS

Quality of Service (QoS) is imperative for multimedia real-time applications to ensure optimal use of the communication channels and deliver Video Conference (VC) with acceptable quality. Several algorithms have been proposed in the literature to optimize the use of the bandwidth when both VC and Internet browsing are operating at the same time. In this paper we apply three of these methods, Guaranteed Bandwidth or custom queuing (CQ), weighted fair queuing (WFQ), and a combination of them, on Sudanese Research and Education Network (SudREN) and investigate their performance using Real Time Protocol (RTP) and H.323 standards. The results show that the combined method achieved the best performance.
