Determination of parameters of symmetric coupled lines in an inhomogeneous medium using reflected and transmitted waveforms

A simple new method to determine unknown coupled line parameters (the even- and odd-mode characteristic impedances Z/sub e/ and Z/sub o/ and phase velocities V/sub e/ and V/sub o/) is presented. The Z/sub e/ and Z/sub o/ can be determined by the amplitudes of the first reflected and transmitted waveforms and the V/sub e/ and V/sub o/ by the delay times of the second reflected and transmitted waveforms.
