The effect of blend on DC breakdown and conduction characteristics of LDPE

In this work, we prepared some specimens by blending the two kinds of low density polyethylene (LDPE) with a 0.9179 or 0.9192 g/cm/sup 3/, according to different ratios. The specimens are classified by the blend ratio of the contents of LDPE with 0.9192 g/cm/sup 3/ to that with 0.9179 g/cm/sup 3/. For these specimens, we study the effect of the blend on DC breakdown and conduction current characteristics at 30/spl deg/C and 90/spl deg/C. From the results of DC breakdown experiments, it is confirmed that the DC breakdown strength decreases with the increase of the blend ratio at 30/spl deg/C. The specimens with blend ratios of 25 wt% and 75 wt%, however, have a lower breakdown strength than the others at 90/spl deg/C. The current densities of specimens increase with the increase of blend ratio at 30/spl deg/C. On the other hand, current density is decreased with the increase of blend ratio up to 75 wt% at 90/spl deg/C.
