A novel optical transceiver using an in-line PD/LD assembly for cost-effective single-fiber "ping-pong" optical data link

A small-sized and low-cost optical transceiver module has been developed for a single-fiber "ping-pong" optical data link. A new half-transmittance photodiode, and a 1.3 /spl mu/m-MQW-LD are arranged in a straight line. Fiber output power of 0 dBm and receiver sensitivity of -38.3 dBm at B.E.R.=10/sup -8/ were obtained at 50 Mbps burst mode.
