Single-mode dispersion-shifted fibers with effective area over 100 /spl mu/m/sup 2/

We have designed and fabricated single-mode dispersion-shifted fibers with effective area as large as 120 /spl mu/m/sup 2/ in the 1550-nm window and good bending performance using a ring-type index profile with a depressed center. The effective area is always significant larger than the mode-field area.
