AP land mine detection using an ultra high range resolution radar technique

The basic radar techniques have been demonstrated, but would benefit from implementation in a form suitable for low cost production. In particular this includes the waveform generator technique and antenna receiver design. Some sensing and or motion compensation algorithms will be required for both vehicle-mounted and handheld applications. it is recognised that further work needs to be done on signal processing and on discriminants to help eliminate false targets and give positive identification of mines. The digital waveform generator technique proposed makes it possible to choose different waveforms for search modes and for identification modes, and the waveform can be tailored to match resonant features of known targets. Real-time sampling of the received signal would allow a greater flexibility in data processing. Suitable sampling devices based on electro-optic techniques are currently under development.
