A mobility training and remote monitoring device for the elderly

In this paper, we present an assistive mobility device with the function of mobility training and remote monitoring for the elderly with mobility disabilities. The device is adopted modular design and provided energy by lithium-ion battery. In the mobility training aspect, the assistive device installs a six-axis force sensor handlebar which can perceptive the value and direction of the force applied on it. The six-axis force sensor handlebar will convert the force to relative speed and angle of the device. Wh en t he elderly do mobility training, they use the handlebar as support and give a little force to it in order that they can do mobility training under the traction of the device. In the remote monitoring aspect, the device has installed some sensors to detect the elderly vital signs signals(body temperature, breathe, heart rate, blood pressure), location information and three-dimension acceleration of the device. The collected information will be sent to a remote monitorin g computer through wireless transmission and then be displayed in real-time. If the elderly vital signs signals or three-dimension acceleration of the device is abnormal, the monitoring computer will display warning message. The care workers can know the situation of the elderly and take response measures in time.
