System analysis through interconnected solved subsystems

This paper discusses a graph-theory-based method for system analysis in terms of subsystems. The methods are related to Kron's diakoptics. The general technique provides an elegant and efficient system for reducing complex system analysis to tractable-sized problems. Systems are interrelated through an interconnection graph which is augmented to the subsystem and overall systems graphs, and which carries information about the modes of interconnection of the subsystems. Subsystems are modelled by both implicit and explicit multiterminal representations.
