An overview of pen computing: four perspectives

Summary form only given. The difficulties of handwriting recognition are explored. The requirements are a fundamental insight into the handwriting production process, domain knowledge on the nature of script pattern geometry, and powerful algorithms which display both noise tolerance and the ability to integrate multilevel information sources. The article discusses pen-computing hardware, software and user interfaces, handwriting production, and online handwriting recognition.
