80-Gbit/s 9-kbit optical pulse storage loop

We have stored 80-Gbit/s 9-kbit packets of optical return-to-zero (soliton-like) data in a fiber-optical storage loop utilizing 2:1 rational-harmonic amplitude modulation at 40 GHz. Storage times greater then 30 seconds have been achieved. Demonstration of storage of 80-Gbit/s packets is an important step in the development of optical packet buffers for future high-speed telecommunications networks and specialized optical processors.
