Challenges in developing FePt L10 granular thin film media for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR)

In this paper, the author highlight challenges and opportunities in the currently ongoing HAMR media development. This will include moving from spherical grains to vertically more columnar and laterally more Voronoi-shaped grain growth, reducing the number of misaligned in-plane grains in the media layer for obtaining full remanent moment, lowering sigma T

distributions and identifying possible sources of undesired sigma T distributions.
