A unified approach for clinical decision making

A methodology based on rough sets has been developed to aid physicians in determining the most likely diagnostic hypothesis to account for a set of patient findings. The domain of valvular heart disease is used to test solution methods that should be applicable to other medical areas. A key design philosophy underlying rough sets is that the physician should have control of the computer interaction to determine what is to be done (clinical examinations) and what the necessary decisions to be taken are, using only the available incomplete and imprecise information.<
