Abstract:
The limited storage capacity of electric batteries is one of the major drawbacks of Electric Vehicles (EV). The main challenge is to achieve a systematic energy management of the vehicles based on the integration of components and sub-systems, including the development of the Battery Management System (BMS) with thermal management. This paper presents a BMS test platform for EV applications, with details about monitoring and protection of the battery, communication technologies and interfaces to enable open network communication and interoperability. In order to test the BMS platform, two types of Li-ion batteries, dedicated to hybrid and EV applications, were used. Based on these tests a battery degradation model was developed, considering two performance parameters, energy capacity and energy losses of the batteries.
