Dynamic Equivalencing And Optimal Choice Of Excitation System Parameters

A digital simulation method for selecting the optimal excitation system parameters from multi-machine dynamic stability studies is presented. A simple method using only the Y-bus matrix of the network and inertia constants and transient reactances of the machines has been used for identifying coherent machines. A dynamic equivalencing procedure is then employed for reducing the large- scale system to a reduced order system which is subsequently used for stability studies. The synchronous machines are represented by detailed five coil models. The IEEE computer simulation models for both static and brushless excitation systems have been provided in the programme. The optimal choice of the excitation system parameters is obtained by eigen value analysis of the system [A]-matrix over the full ranges of the parameters.
