Abstract:
Industrial power supply networks today are polluted by various loads connected to them and their method of control. Consumers are required to meet the stringent requirements imposed by electric utility authorities at the supply network. Hence, it is very much essential for industrial plants to have a static VAr compensator (SVC) for both reactive volt-ampere and harmonics reduction at their premises. This approach not only reduces power tariffs but also improves the quality of the power supply. This paper outlines the various types of industrial loads, their effects at the network and the methods of compensation including SVCs.
