Numerical study of second harmonic generation in semiconductor waveguides

We report on the use of the finite element based beam propagation method to model second harmonic generation in a GaAlAs semiconductor waveguide of practical interest. We show how the design of such a waveguide could be optimized with respect to the various guide parameters. The finite element method has previously been shown to be a powerful, accurate and versatile method.
