Internal impedance characterization for black box signal source

Different system identification techniques for using experimental data to characterize the waveform and internal impedance of a voltage source are examined. In the automotive industry, an Interference Signal Generator (ISG) is used to synthesize Electro Static Discharge (ESD) spike pulses according to SAE specifications (SAE Test Pulses 1,2,3a & 3b) [1]. involves high speed measurement and data manipulation of these transient spikes and modeling, simulation and validation of an equivalent model for the signal source. Using the result, an electric circuit that accurately behaves like the internal impedance of the signal generator was implemented in a SABER

model. The experimentally validated model is used for simulation of automotive protection circuits.
