Antenna arrays of the CNET backscatter HF radar

An antenna system for an ionospheric backscatter sounder is being installed by CNET at Lannion. This system has been designed to sweep the main beam in azimuth and elevation over a wide range of frequencies (6-30 MHz), while providing the most constant narrow-beam possible. Towards this aim the authors have proposed a method of beam shaping based on a physical approach. The effects of phase and amplitude dispersion associated with the elements making up the backscatter sounder on the performance of this new method are evaluated by simulation.<
