Layered bandwidth management in the integrated ATM, SDH/SONET, and optical transport networks

This paper presents a layered bandwidth management scheme that exploits the strengths of ATM, STM and optical network technologies to realize a more manageable and cost-effective network than is possible by applying only one of these technologies in the integrated ATM, SDH/SONET, and optical transport networks.
