Cascade interpretation of classical stability results

The Schur-Cohn stability test procedure for discrete-time systems can be derived in several ways. A purely mathematical approach would typically be based on Rouche's theorem of complex variable theory. A second approach based on circuit-theoretic synthesis procedures throws additional light on the method. A third approach is based on linear prediction and Levinson's recursion. A review is presented of these various methods and the connections among them. All three methods give rise to the same recursive stability test procedure and hence to the lattice structure, either directly or indirectly.<
