See T. Shiozawa, ibid., vol.8., p.497, 1990. Comments are made affecting the claim that the method proposed in the above-named paper of determining the refractive-index profile of optical waveguides from the effective indexes is more practical than other methods including that of the commenter. The author's reply gives a basis for verifying the original statement that this method is an improvement over others.<
