Blood transport in the field: a multi compartment model

Whole blood and blood components are transported in the field usually in passive storage boxes. The article describes a multi-compartment model that was designed and implemented to study the effects of different ambient conditions and various passive cooling means configurations on the preservation of blood bags in the field. A series of experiments was conducted in order to validate the model. The apparatus suggested by the model and then tested empirically enables the preservation of blood for as long as 22 hours, and has already been put into daily use.
