A conceptual model of Al-Furqan courseware using persuasive system design for early learning childhood

Able to read and recite verses in Al-Quran, which is written in Arabic language, is important to Muslims because verses of Al-Quran must be recited while performing the solat routine daily. Therefore, it is important to Muslims to learn Arabic language from the earliest age possible, the toddler's age. However, teaching Arabic language to children, especially toddlers, is difficult due to several reasons; one of it is their short-time attention ability to focus. Al-Furqan is one of the methods to learn Arabic language. In Al-Furqan method, the sequence of the Arabic sounds used is based on the baby's first sounds, such as ba and ma. This paper is proposing a conceptual model in building an interactive Arabic language learning courseware for toddlers using Al-Furqan method. The conceptual model is build based on four different theories, which are the persuasive system design, the toddler learning theory, the multimedia principles, and e-flashcards. For the persuasive system design, persuasion context and software characteristics are included, while for the toddler learning theory, visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles are embedded. For the multimedia principles, principle of multimedia, spatial contiguity, temporal, coherence, segmenting and voice are considered. For the e-flashcard, the multimedia elements concept of content is displayed on clear screen as it is apply digitally. This model will be assessed by evaluating the behavior change of toddlers during use of the courseware.
