Effect of disk texture on tripological performance

The War life at the head/disk interface is strongly dependent on the sliding distance prior to take-off. Buller take-off velocities (TOV) decrease the sliding distance and increase the wear life. This is accomplished by reducing the number of head/disk contacts prior to take-of. Many factors, including head geometry, effect TOV. In this study, the effect of the disk texture on TOV was evaluated for two skew angles and two head crowns. Component and drive level contact start-stop (CSS) tests were also performed to evaluate the effect of disk texture on tribological performance.
