Nd(Fe,Mo)/sub 12/Nx compounds and magnets

The nitrogen induced hard magnetic material is getting interest for the potential application of permanent magnet. A lot of efforts are carrying out to make the magnets for the Sm₂Fe₁₇Nx¹ and NdFe₁₁ TiNx² compounds. The NdFe₁₁ TiNx has a large saturation magnetization and Curie temperature comparable with the Sm₂Fe₁₇Nx compound, though the anisotropy field is lower than that of Sm₂2Fe₁₇Nx. However, the NdFe₁₁ TiNx has an advantage, because the cost of Nd is lower than Sm. In this study, the magnet fabrication art tried for the Nd(Fe,M)₁₂Nx compounds by the mechanical alloying method. The ThMn₁₂ crystal structure can be formed for the Nd(Fe,M)₁₂Nx (M=Ti, V, Mo and W) compounds, and the magnetic properties of these compounds are not investigating yet except for the M=Ti case. The purpose of this study is clarify which elements are suitable for the magnet fabrication of Nd(Fe,M)₁₂Nx within Ti, V, Mo and W.
