Digital magneto-optical sensor

The magnetic materials are successfully used in the design of fiber optical sensors, which are of great current interest in many fields of application in spite of their high reliability and unsensitivity to external interferences. The progress in the improvement of accuracy and reliability of fiber optical sensors is suppressed by the defect which is characteristic to any analog fiber optic channel - unstability caused by the action of vibration, humidity, radiation etc. upon optical fibers and opto-electronic components. This problem can be solved by digital fiber optical sensor (DFOS), e.d. sensor which is able to measure physicals quantity and to transmit the result in the form of digital code. But at present time successful DFOS resolutions are found for the position and angular frequency measurements only. The effects of external fields on the domain structure in the transparent ferromagnetic materials give rise to exciting possibilities for DFOS design.
