Correlation between domain structure and piezoelectric properties: Experimental study of (111)c oriented BaTiO3 single crystal

It is known that longitudinal and transversal piezoelectric coefficients of (111)
_c
, oriented poled tetragonal crystal plate depend on its domain structure. Expected strong variation of these coefficients for different domain patterns in poled crystals was experimentally confirmed on the example of BaTiO
₃
single crystal. The correlation between a piezoelectric coefficient d
₃₁
and the domain pattern observed with polarizing microscope is shown.
