The numerical simulation of aeration and energy dissipation for stepped spillway

The computer numerical simulation has been widely used in water resources and hydropower research, which cost little and solve a lot of difficulty that can't solve by experiments. Based on the RNG turbulence model and VOF model of water vapor two-phase, this paper numerical simulated the aeration and energy dissipation properties on stepped spillway combined with Y-shape flaring gate pier with the contraction ratio ε respectively of 0.7,0.445 and 0.4.The results shows that the computer numerical simulation can accurately calculate the average aeration concentration and energy dissipation rate. The simulation results showed that the energy dissipation rate increased with decreased contraction ratio of flaring gate pier, and the average aeration concentration decreased with some fluctuations with the contraction ratio decreases, but the aeration range on steps is reduced.
