Context-Aware Sensing and Multisensor Fusion

Context sensitivity and context-sensitive behavior allow the adaption of the properties of a system according to the user's needs. The realization of context-aware systems in biomedical applications normally requires a combination of body-worn sensors and environmental sensors. Multisensor fusion is the most widely used methodology for context recognition in a variety of applications. Multisensor fusion implies the combination of output variables from different sensors to achieve information with higher quality. In general, there are some basic requirements for sensor systems that are also valid for multisensor systems. They have to fulfill the specifications for accuracy, reliability, security, completeness of the required data, as well as some nonfunctional requirements like weight, dimensions, housing, and price. In telemedical systems, some additional requirements have to be taken into account.
