Simulation and experiment of electro-magnetic repulsion interrupter based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA

Electro-magnetic repulsion interrupter (EMRI) is a key component of hybrid breaker and also a new type of large-capacity high-speed circuit interrupting device. In this paper, the basic working principle of EMRI is analyzed and the three dimensional dynamic simulation is established based on the ANSYS/LS DYNA. Through the model, the equivalent stress distribution on the repulsive disc and interrupter has been obtained. What's more, the stress of the weakest links, once interrupted, is about 0.65GPa. The separate time and average velocity of the moving part can also be achieved when the weakest link has different typical thickness. Finally, the accuracy of the simulation is verified through experiments. Compared to the separate time of 65us and average velocity of 35.7m/s with a thickness of 0.3mm in simulation, the separate time is 80us and average velocity is 35.7m/s in experiments, which is consistent with the simulation results.
