Future military GPS user equipment architecture

The US militaries' large investment in GPS hardware will increase considerably over the next few years. This growth comes at a time when several significant new requirements will be levied on military GPS User Equipment (UE). Change in today's UE will be necessary to address the wide range of new requirements. UE are needed which can preserve the existing navigation capability provided by GPS, satisfy the new requirements, meet the needs of both existing and new platforms, provide for growth, and minimize total life cycle cost. An Open Systems architecture can be the basis for UE that economically meet the many needs of the future.
