Lattice tower ground line corrosion and mitigation; a case study

This typical tower line is an example of what happens to steel structures which go without maintenance for extended periods. A method of inspection, repair and below ground line maintenance is presented. This paper addresses only lattice towers on grillage foundations. The recognition that below ground steel may not be in the same condition as above ground steel is presented along with a repair method for legs and bracing which have been damaged by corrosion.
