Integral load frequency controller with time-varying weighting coefficients

Area Control Error (ACE) is used as the input variable conventional load-frequency controllers. ACE is a sum of total tie-line powder deviation and area frequency error with constant weights on each variable. Because the systems are non-linear, the relative strength of these two variables should be adjusted to match the system operating conditions. A modified algorithm to form ACE with time-varying weights on the two variables is proposed in this paper. Results for a two-area system show improved system performance over conventional linear control with constant weights.
