New Development of µ-PIC with resistive cathode and capacitive readout

Micro Pixel Chamber (μ-PIC) with resistive cathodes and capacitive readouts was developed and tested. The μ-PIC can be operated around 10

of gas multiplication, which enable us to detect the minimum ionized particle. However, if there are large energy deposit simultaneously, such as recoiled nuclei, discharge and spark probabilities are raised because of dense electrons. Using the resistive material for electrodes is the very efficient method to reduce the spark problem. We have been improving the design of resistive μ-PIC, and get to most promising design. The cathode electrodes are made from resistive material. The prototype was made and tested successfully. We got strong spark reduction, which is 10

times smaller than existing μ-PIC, using intense fast neutron.
