Switchable Faraday rotation by artificial electric gyrotropy in a slot-ring metamaterial structure

A switchable electric magnet-less non-reciprocal metamaterial (E-MNM) is proposed. This E-MNM uses antisymmetric FET-pair isolating loads along its ring particles, whose traveling-wave direction, and hence the direction of gyrotropy, can be reversed by switching the biasing voltages of the FET-pair circuit. The resulting electrostatically reversible Faraday rotation across an E-MNM screen is demonstrated experimentally.
