Impact of early manufacturing influence on product development performance under conditions of design novelty

Summary form only as given. This paper investigates the impact of early manufacturing influence (EMI) on product development performance. EMI is examined at six stages of the product development process (PDP). EMI improves performance at the earliest stages of the PDP, including the research stage, especially for novel designs.
